BIOGRAPHY

​​​​Chinese tenor Zhengyi Bai’s operatic roles include Le Prince Charmant in Cendrillon (Opera Orlando), Prince Nilsky in The Gambler (Salzburg Festival), Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte (San Francisco Opera), Goro in Madama Butterfly (Virginia Opera, The Florentine Opera and Kentucky Opera), Collin in The Anonymous Lover (Boston Lyric Opera), The Hunchback Brother in Die Frau ohne Schatten(San Francisco Opera), Dr. Caius in Falstaff (Opera San José), Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro (Opera San José), Fong See in On Gold Mountain (Los Angeles Opera), the First Prisoner in Fidelio (San Francisco Opera), Dancing Master/Lamplighter in Manon Lescaut (San Francisco Opera) and Remendado in Carmen (San Francisco Opera).
Born and raised in Shandong province of China, Bai began his studies as a piano performance student and a collaborative pianist. It was in his junior year in college he discovered his true instrument: his voice. With a solid musical foundation of piano study, Bai flourished in his vocal studies, completing his initial vocal training in Shandong, China, and continuing his opera training in the United States. Bai was a participant of the Adler Fellowship and Merola Opera Program at San Francisco Opera.
